Fitness, physical activity and quitting smoking
The term health promotion encompasses many different aspects and disciplines that focus on human health. Some of the more common health topics include diet and fitness, physical activity, and smoking cessation. The most important goal of health promotion is to reduce the burden of disease through prevention and wellness programs. Currently, there are many approaches to health promotion, but these have proven to be ineffective. A healthy society requires a supportive environment and education about relevant health topics.
Prevention was much more effective than medical intervention
Despite the lack of effective biomedical interventions, health promotion is still a proven effective approach for public health problems. The HIV/AIDS pandemic, for example, had no biomedical cure in the 1980s and 1990s. Treatment and support services were the mainstays of control, and prevention was far more effective than medical intervention. A number of interventions, such as condom use and needle exchanges, helped counter the AIDS pandemic. Even though medical treatment was largely limited until the development of anti-retroviral drugs (ART), there were still a number of measures to promote health and prevent the spread of the virus.
Contributes to the health and well-being of the individual
A variety of factors outside the health sector determine people’s health, including poverty, destitution, and food insecurity. The lack of education, access to affordable healthcare, and poor living conditions all contribute to a person’s health and well-being. Fortunately, health promotion has become an integral part of the global development agenda, and many people are now actively engaged in health promotion. In fact, it is the primary approach for most countries and is an essential part of Public H.I. infrastructure.
